Lot 1094 - #92a, 20c Carmine rose, "Canal" inverted, the error being the middle stamp in an unused right margin plate no. 17531 block of fifteen (position 48 on the sheet), strong color, a few hinge reinforcements of separated perfs. some mild toning in the right margin not at all affecting the error stamp, fine; according to Canal Zone Stamps, this is one of only two recorded examples of this error, with the other being in a plate no. 17530 block of 25 (ex-Plass, Drucker), which makes this the rarest error of all the 1924-1931 Overprint issues (CZSG #92a).....CV. $4,000.00 ...Sold for $5,250.00

Starting with a 9x1, and half a local carrier 1¢ Dupuy & Schenck, 4 Sc #1 Franklins with jumbo margins on cover, one with and early R.R. Cancel. All with Weiss Certs.. There is a wide sampling of 1851 1¢ and 3¢ including, carrier covers, #s 10a, 25, 26a. We have blackjacks in carrier, and locals.

A unique set of 3 covers #64 Pink, 64a Pigeon Blood, and #64 Rose Pink all one town, Pestigo, Wisc. All with Weiss Certs. We have 2 books of mini covers, 4 books of fancy cancels (19 each book), most of the 1800s to the banknotes of high value single stamps in used fine to very fine condition, including an SC #99 split grill, also a lime green cancel on #114

In Foreign covers (All high value covers are Weiss Cert.) we offer 4 Chili, 3 bisects from the mid 1850s, high value covers from Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, and Swiss with multiple use stamps, and cancels with contents. Formed over a lifetime, this small but powerful collection covers mostly the first two Issues (1857-58) with extraordinary treasures of classic Russian Philately. Among them, there is the largest known multiple of the first Russian adhesive (imperforate horizontal strip of five, ex-Faberge); the unique unused horizontal strip of three of 1858 10 kopeck brown & blue (ex-Mikulski); one of only two known unused blocks of four of the third (ex-Mikulski) and fourth (ex-Liphschutz) stamps; unique Essays for the first postage stamp with a bicolor head of Mercury (instead of the double-headed Imperial Eagle); the iconic "White Eagle" tete-beche essays, and others.
